Although he did not explicitly mention it, Zelenskyy’s remarks come as intense fighting continues inside Russia following Kyiv’s sudden incursion into the Russian western region of Kursk.
According to Russian sources, around 1,000 Ukrainian troops, supported by heavy military equipment,
breached the Russian border in Kursk in the early hours of Tuesday.
This marked Kyiv’s deepest penetration into Russian territory since the conflict began in 2022.
On Saturday, Zelenskyy commended the Ukrainian soldiers fighting Russian forces at the front, without referring to the developments in Kursk.
“Today, I received several reports from Commander-in-Chief [of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, General Oleksandr] Syrskyi regarding the frontlines, our actions, and the push to drive the war onto the aggressor’s territory,” he wrote on social media platform X, thanking every unit of the Ukrainian defense forces for its contribution in putting Russia on the backfoot.
“I would like to commend all our warriors for this week – the combat brigades, which are highly effective in defending our country and destroying the occupier. We leave no part of the front unattended.”
Continuing, he said, “Ukraine is proving that it truly knows how to restore justice and applies the necessary pressure on the aggressor.”
He also thanked the U.S. for the new $125 million defense package for Kyiv, which includes, among other things, Stinger missiles, ammunition for High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS), and 155 mm artillery shells.
Zelenskyy also said that Ukraine is eagerly awaiting the delivery of advanced long-range weaponry from the U.S., Britain, and France, which, if it materializes, could bring Kyiv closer to peace.
“We look forward with great anticipation to decisions on long-range capabilities – from the United States, the United Kingdom, and France… decisions that will bring a just peace closer”, he said.
