Ruslan Stefanchuk, chairman of the Verkhovna Rada, also said he had high hopes for Lithuania’s EU presidency in the first half of 2027.
“I think that during the Polish presidency in 2025, there will be a significant intensification of Ukraine's progress towards the European Union,” Stefanchuk told a press briefing at Lithuania’s parliament on Monday.
“And frankly, I am also very much counting on 2027, when Lithuania will take over the presidency. We have big plans related to that.”
Stefanchuk went on to say that he hoped Ukraine would be taken into account in the EU’s multi-annual financial framework, for 2028–2034.
He said that during the current Hungarian presidency of the EU Council, Ukrainian parliamentarians are “doing their homework.”
“We’re just calmly voting on those bills that bring Ukraine closer to the European Union,” he was quoted by Poland’s state news agency PAP as saying.
Poland takes over the EU presidency on January 1, followed six months later by Denmark.
