The Foreign Ministry has stated that it is considering
suspending the provision of consular services at its foreign posts for men of mobilization age, Interfax-Ukraine reported, citing Kuleba’s post on X.
However, Interfax-Ukraine stated that
the country’s consulates have stopped providing services to men of mobilization age. The Ukrainian public broadcaster Suspilne also reported on its website, citing several consulates, that the suspension was already underway in Poland and the Czech Republic.
Reuters also reported that services for men of mobilization age were temporarily no longer available, referencing information obtained from a government hotline.
The head of Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry announced in a post on X that the ministry will soon announce new regulations for men subject to military service who are abroad.
“If anyone believes that while someone is fighting far away at the frontline and risking his or her life for this state, someone else is staying abroad but receiving services from this state,
then this is not how it works,” Kuleba wrote.
“Staying abroad does not relieve a citizen of his or her duties to the Homeland,” he emphasized. “That is why yesterday I ordered measures to
restore fair attitudes toward men of conscription age in Ukraine and abroad. This will be fair,” he added.
The Suspilne website reported that a copy of the Foreign Ministry leadership’s decision ordering the heads of foreign missions to suspend all consular services except those related to returning to Ukraine was published unofficially on Monday.
Around 650,000 men of draft age have left Ukraine since the start of the war, evading conscription, Politico reported last week, in an article describing declining morale within Ukrainian society.
