Vasily Golubev, governor of Rostov, confirmed media reports that several fuel tanks were on fire, the Reuters news agency reported.

The attacked depot lies roughly 15 kilometers (9.3 miles) east of the border with the Luhansk region of eastern Ukraine that Russia claims to have annexed in 2022, said the Kyiv Independent newspaper.

“There are no casualties,” Golubev wrote on the Telegram messaging app, adding: “Firefighters are extinguishing the fire.”

According to Reuters, Moscow said that Russian air defense units destroyed four drones over Rostov overnight.

Kyiv’s strike marks its latest attack on Russian oil and gas facilities in retaliation for Moscow targeting Ukrainian energy infrastructure. On Monday, Russia hit Ukraine’s critical civilian infrastructure in a mass attack involving more than 100 missiles and a similar number of drones.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian media reported that the Ukrainian military intelligence service (HUR) and special forces were behind the drone attacks on fuel storage facilities in Rostov.
