We will be where our presence is needed: Defense Minister in Kosovo Poland is a strong and loyal ally. Wherever the presence of Polish soldiers and officers is needed, we are and will be there. We will fulfill our allied tasks with full strength and determination, said Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz at a meeting with Polish soldiers in Kosovo.

On Tuesday, Kosiniak-Kamysz visited Camp Novo Selo in Kosovo, where soldiers of the multinational coalition KFOR (Kosovo Force) are stationed. The Deputy Prime Minister took part in an Easter meeting with soldiers of the Polish contingent at their camp.

Currently, about 1,500 Polish soldiers are stationed in countries like Romania, Latvia, and Turkey, constituting a part of nine military contingents.

“You set an example of devotion towards society, towards the peacekeeping mission, towards all of this you were called for. You are the pride of Poland (...). Thanks to you, Poland is more secure, stronger within NATO,” Kosiniak Kamysz said to the officers and soldiers present at the meeting.

"We will fulfill all obligations arising from the articles and provisions of the North Atlantic Treaty; this is our commitment to the alliance, and the mission in Kosovo and all our military contingents are the best proof of it. When necessary, we will implement each of the articles, including Article 5. When our call will come, we believe and expect such confirmation always from our allies," he added.

The KFOR

The head of the Ministry of National Defense also thanked the soldiers for their involvement in missions that required them to spend a long time away from their homes and families. He emphasized that among the soldiers serving in Kosovo, there is one "record holder" who has already taken part in seven different missions abroad.

The KFOR mission in Kosovo has been operating continuously since June 1999. The Polish contingent has been taking part in it from the very beginning; it was one of the first missions of the Polish Army within NATO, which Poland had joined only a few months earlier.

Currently, PMC Kosovo is the largest Polish contingent, numbering approximately 250 soldiers.

Polish soldiers take part in missions related to ensuring compliance with international agreements regarding Kosovo; they also fight, among others, with smuggling or organized crime, supporting local authorities. In addition to the military contingent, a Polish police contingent is also present in Kosovo.
