Zelenskyy shared the news on X on Friday, following his meeting with European leaders at the European Political Community summit in the U.K. the previous day.

“Yesterday, I met with Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk at the European political community summit in the United Kingdom to discuss strengthening Ukraine's defense capabilities,” Zelenskyy wrote.

“And today, we have a positive decision from the Polish government on a specific issue, which will allow Ukraine to receive F-16 jets sooner,” Zelenskyy added without going into further specifics.
He also thanked Tusk for “efficiently following up on our previous agreements” and expressed appreciation for Poland’s “strong support for Ukraine.”

Later on Friday, a source close to the Polish defense ministry told Polish state news agency PAP that the decision did not involve transferring Polish F-16s, which “are staying and protecting the Polish skies.”

According to the source, the decision pertains to logistical issues, such as transporting equipment from other allied countries.

Kyiv is set to receive its first F-16s this summer. Denmark, Norway, the Netherlands, and Belgium plan to provide Ukraine with over 60 of these jets to help counter Russian air superiority. Poland currently has a fleet of 48 F-16 fighters.
