The survey was conducted towards the end of May by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology and took into account the opinions of 2,011 adults. Depending on the region, support for Zelenskyy oscillated between 65% to 74%.
In contrast, just 22% of those surveyed said that he should relinquish the presidency.
Were it not for martial law, the next presidential election would have been held on March 31 of this year, with Zelenskyy’s term officially ending on May 20; as such, some dissenters have argued that he ceased to be a legitimate president on this date.
However, leading constitutional lawyers have disputed this claim, saying that the Constitution allows for such extensions.
Martial law was declared following Russia’s full-scale invasion on February 24, 2022, and expressly forbids presidential, parliamentary, and local elections.
