Freedom Day, which highlights the democratic legacy of the first independent Belarusian state, is commemorated each year on March 25.

On Sunday, the celebrations in Warsaw included a demonstration featuring mostly Belarusians, Poles, and Ukrainians, during which the participants marched toward the monument of Nicolaus Copernicus, symbolizing unity and the shared pursuit of freedom.

Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya, a political activist who has led the political opposition to Belarusian leader Alyaksandr Lukashenko, tweeted:

Today, we are celebrating our Freedom Day - the anniversary of the day the Belarusian Democratic Republic proclaimed its independence in 1918. We are calling on the world to show solidarity with Belarus on this day.
