The 35-year-old was seized at Warsaw’s Chopin Airport after officers from the National Revenue Administration (KAS) became suspicious of his behavior.
Taking him aside, officers then carried out tests, which revealed the presence of the class A drug in his system, after which the man admitted swallowing 85 capsules for financial reasons.
But after being taken to hospital, a CT scan revealed he actually had almost 1.2 kg of cocaine in his stomach.
KAS spokeswoman Justyna Pasieczyńska said: “By court decision, the traveler was arrested for three months.
“For attempting to smuggle such an amount of drugs, the man faces a sentence of up to 20 years in prison.”
