D.-C. was sentenced to 2.5 years imprisonment and further proceedings are pending.
The fraudster was apprehended on February 24 in Tczew (a city in northern Poland). The swindler's dual personalities were confirmed by the judge of the District Court in Kielce, southern Poland, where the sentence was handed down.
“I can confirm that the convict was apprehended on February 24 of this year and was incarcerated in a penitentiary in Gdańsk. His sentence will last until June 23, 2026,” Judge Jan Klocek, a spokesman for the Kielce District Court, told PAP.
Andrzej D.-C has a long history of fraudulent activity, with his criminal activities being first reported by the media in 2014, which highlighted his tendency to take on different identities.
“He conned people using various stories, claiming to be businessmen, attorneys, people providing various types of services. During the pandemic, for example, he offered ozonation services. This imagination of his, and above all his volatility, was intense,” Aleksandra Freus, a Senior Aspirant of the Wrocław police department, told PAP.
The most extreme length
Andrzej D.-C. went to in carrying out scams was undergoing a legal sex change procedure.
The sex change enabled him to avoid having his criminal record detected and thus become the manager of a hotel in Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski (a city in southeastern Poland) under the name Joanna P. In September 2021, he was convicted of fraud and violation of employees' rights at the time.
Appeals by the defense and prosecution were found to be unfounded in 2023, at which time an APB was issued for the fraudster’s arrest.
