“Pies” in Polish translates to dog, and “Pieseł” is a humorous take on PESEL, the national identification number used in Poland.

The dog’s owner, Atsuko Sato, wrote on Instagram: “She went very peacefully without suffering, as if falling asleep while feeling the warmth of my hands petting her.”

According to media reports, Kabosu was diagnosed with cholangiohepatitis and chronic lymphoma leukemia in 2022.

Sato described Kabosu as “the happiest dog in the world.”

Kabuso inspired the “doge” meme and was the face of Dogecoin.

“Sato adopted Kabosu in 2008 when she was sent to an animal shelter after her puppy mill shut down,” Mint newspaper states, citing Sato’s blog post.
