Wahidullah H. was arrested in August 2023 after sexually assaulting the drunk teenager, who had fallen asleep at the Max-Weber-Platz metro station in Munich after returning from a party.

CCTV footage showed Wahidullah H. groping and raping the victim several times for over half an hour.

Following the assault, the Polish student managed to make his way home on his own, and the next day reported the incident to the police.

They were able to locate his stolen phone which then led them to the rapist’s home.
Saying that he had been born in 2005, meaning he was under the age of 18 at the time of the crime, he was tried by a juvenile court at the trial in Munich on Friday.

The victim’s lawyer, Christos Perperidis, said his client was still suffering from the assault, was undergoing psychological treatment and was unable to forget what happened.

Tightened immigration control

The German government has since imposed tighter controls at all of the country’s land borders, in what it has called an attempt to tackle irregular migration and protect the public from threats such as Islamist extremism.

Berlin recently agreed to tighter deportation rules and resumed flying convicted criminals of Afghan nationality to their home country, despite having suspended deportations after the Taliban took power in 2021 due to human rights concerns.
