The decision was made based on recommendations from firefighting services across various parts of the country. On Thursday, the fire department reported 67 fires in forests and agricultural areas within a single day.
This heralds the onset of a challenging wildfire season in the country, eKathimerini emphasized. The first significant fire of the season was recorded on April 6 in southern Crete. Three people were injured as a result of the fire.
In light of the wildfire threat in the Athens region, central Greece, the Cyclades, and Crete,
services have been placed on high alert.
Since the beginning of the month, Greece has experienced record-high temperatures exceeding 30 degrees Celsius. Thermometers in Chania, Crete, showed 31 degrees.
As a result of last year’s summer heatwaves in Greece,
20 people died, and wildfires affected an area of 175,000 hectares.
As part of precautionary measures in Greece, outdoor fires are prohibited.

will help in extinguishing fires in Greece this summer. Details will be established during Friday’s talks between Donald Tusk and Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, as well as the Minister of the Interior and Administration, Marcin Kierwiński.
Tusk, at a joint press conference with Mitsotakis, announced that there would be a joint meeting with the Minister of the Interior and Administration, Marcin Kierwiński, on Friday regarding the future involvement of Polish firefighters in extinguishing fires in Greece.
“We will discuss the details. We will establish how we will continue to help Greece to the benefit of both sides in situations it sometimes finds itself in. I’m talking about fires during the summer season” said the head of government.
