Tractors are blocking one lane of traffic on the city’s main road, known as the arterial road. According to police and Prague authorities, the capital has not been paralyzed as residents have opted against using private vehicles for travel.

Farmers aim to deliver a petition to Agriculture Minister Marek Vyborny. Their demands include withdrawing from the EU’s Green Deal and reforming the Common Agricultural Policy. Another frequent demand is to exempt subsidies from taxation.

Around noon, agricultural machinery is set to move towards the government headquarters. A rally is also planned near the Lower House of Parliament building.

Monday’s protest was not organized by major government-recognized agricultural organizations, which have distanced themselves from the demonstration. However, the Chamber of Agriculture and trade unions have announced their participation in Thursday’s protests at the borders with Slovakia and Poland.

Even before Monday’s demonstration began, Prime Minister Petr Fiala described it as a demonstration orchestrated by anti-government pro-Russian forces with “little to do with the actual problems faced by farmers.”
