Officials from the Mazovian Customs and Tax Office observed suspicious behavior from one of the passengers. Upon inspecting the backpack of the 21-year-old Latvian traveler arriving from Paris, they uncovered an oval package containing white powder weighing over 210 grams, wrapped in transparent foil.
Confirmatory drug testing revealed the illicit nature of the substance.
A personal inspection and a test confirmed the presence of cocaine in the woman’s system.
“This indicated intra-organ smuggling of narcotics. The detainee was transported to the hospital,” said the spokeswoman for the head of the Customs and Tax Administration, Jr. asp. Justyna Pasieczyńska.
Subsequent results from a computer tomography scan of her digestive tract confirmed suspicions,
revealing 78 cocaine capsules weighing nearly 890 grams concealed in her stomach.
“Tests conducted at the Central Customs and Tax Laboratory in Otwock confirmed that the
substance smuggled in the backpack and stomach is cocaine. The black market value of the drugs is over one million zlotys,” emphasized Pasieczyńska.
A court ruling has remanded the traveler into custody for a period of three months. She faces
up to 15 years in prison for her involvement in attempting to smuggle such a significant quantity of drugs.
