Of the slightly more than 4.1 million non-EU citizens who had taken refuge from the war, the greatest number—1,110,600—were resident in Germany, representing 26.9% of the EU total, followed by Poland on 976,205 (23.7%) and the Czech Republic on 9% (369,610), Eurostat said in a Tuesday statement.
The greatest increase on June’s figure was recorded by Poland at 10,430, followed by the Czech Republic with 8,834, then Romania, which saw a rise of 4,250 people. Meanwhile, the totals fell in Luxembourg and France, each by 470.
The total also fell against June in Germany, as authorities there had removed from the statistics all those who had since been granted a different protection status or left the country, accounting together for 236,925 people, or 17.6% of the June figure.
In terms of the proportion of refugees to the general population, the highest share was borne by the Czech Republic, where refugees accounted for 33.9 per thousand, followed by Lithuania (27.4) and Poland (26.7). In the EU as a whole, the ratio was 9.2 per thousand.
At the end of July, Ukrainian citizens represented 98% of all beneficiaries of temporary protection in the bloc, with adult women comprising almost half.
