In a similar poll conducted by U.S.-based analytics company Gallup in 2022, only 26% of Ukrainians were in favor of negotiating to quickly end the war.

Meanwhile, nearly four in ten—38%—back continuing the war until victory, according to the latest Gallup survey.

The study was published on Tuesday as Ukraine faces relentless airstrikes, war fatigue and uncertain Western support with Donald Trump set to return to the White House.

Support for immediate negotiations to end the conflict is strongest in Ukraine’s war-torn eastern regions, including Zaporizhzhia, Kherson, Dnipropetrovsk and Kharkiv, where just 27% now favor continued fighting, down sharply from 63% in 2022. Among Ukrainians open to peace talks, 52% are willing to consider territorial concessions, though the survey did not detail what these might include.

The poll reflects a major decrease in support for prolonged resistance, which stood at 73% in 2022 and 63% in 2023.
This shift in sentiment mirrors recent remarks by Ukrainian officials and international leaders. U.S. President-elect Donald Trump has vowed to end the war within 24 hours of taking office, while Ukraine’s president, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, recently emphasized pursuing diplomatic efforts to end the conflict by 2025.

The survey also found mixed trust in potential mediators. Seventy percent of respondents view the European Union as a reliable partner in peace negotiations, compared to 63% favoring the United Kingdom and 49% trusting the United States under the Trump administration.

The Gallup survey contrasts with findings from the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology, which earlier this month reported that 63% of Ukrainians are ready to endure the war for as long as necessary.
