The ’Joint Effort 2024’ aims to “practice the coordinated actions of (NATO and EU forces) in the region,” a communiqué from KFOR, NATO’s international peacekeeping mission in Kosovo, stated.

Particular emphasis will be placed on the proper functioning of the Alliance and EU’s joint response procedures to “promote peace in Kosovo and the entire Western Balkans region.”

“Through the joint exercise, we want to demonstrate our commitment to maintaining the security and prosperity of all communities in Kosovo,” announced the KFOR commander, Turkish General Ozkan Ulutas.

The NATO mission, established under a UN mandate, began operating in Kosovo in 1999 in connection with the war waged against the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. Kosovo was then part of that state.

KFOR’s main tasks are to create and maintain conditions that enable the people of Kosovo to function safely where they live and to ensure security and public order.

Part of the mission is a Polish contingent stationed in Novo Selo. KFOR consists of some 3,800 troops from 27 countries.

EULEX is a European Union police mission that includes representatives from EU member states and third countries.

The aim of the police officers and legal experts is to support the authorities and administration of Kosovo, as well as the development of an independent and multi-ethnic judicial, police, and customs system.
