Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, the head of the Ministry of Defense, said in a post on the X platform on Friday that the increase was “an important step for the security of Poland and the North Atlantic Alliance.”

He added that by 2024 the number of soldiers in active military service will increase to 215,000 and that there will also be an increase in the number of people in active reserve forces.

According to former defense chief Mariusz Błaszczak, the rise in numbers is the result of recruitment reforms introduced by the previous Law and Justice government.
