Some 56% of those surveyed decided to add grilling to their yearly agenda in 2024, with the rest citing lack of a suitable venue and other weekend plans as the main reasons for abandoning such gatherings. Last year, some two-thirds of Poles declared their participation.

When it comes to the food choices, the information provided by those surveyed shows that sausages, chosen by 86% of them, are still unbeatable at Polish barbecue parties. They were followed by bread (70%), beer (68%), fresh meat (62%), and vegetables (52%).

Non-alcoholic beverages are also popular, with 44% of consumers claiming to drink them while barbecuing.

“Poles are clearly faithful to the ‘classics’, i.e., products such as sausage and beer. We tend to plan our purchases; a great role is played in this case by the offer of stores prepared with barbecue in mind, as well as promotions, which we like to use. A large proportion of barbecuers check the offer before they go shopping. This is important information for manufacturers and chains,” assessed Agnieszka Górnicka of Inquiry, quoted in the release.

The data also showed that the average amount spent on one-time barbecue purchases this year is 274 zlotys (€64), a small change from May 2023 but a significant one compared to the 2021 survey, when the average expenditure was 186 zlotys (€43.5).

According to the survey, barbecue lovers stock up primarily at the Biedronka supermarket chain. However, its popularity has declined slightly, with 63% declaring to shop there, compared to 68% in 2021. On the other hand, the domestic Dino chain recorded a surge in popularity, with 24% of respondents choosing it, compared to 16% in 2021.

In April 2024, a representative sample of 1,002 adult Poles participated in the survey.
