A new center for foreign language programs will see TVP’s English language channel TVP World and its subsidiary Belarusian channel, Belsat TV, come under the same editorial umbrella, a press release from the broadcaster said.
TVP World Editor-in-chief Michał Broniatowski said: “The inclusion of Belsat Television in the new unit of Polish Television in substantive, organizational, and technical matters does not mean the liquidation of Belsat, and even less so of its unique identity.
“This brand and its program remain, and the only goal of our actions is to better use TVP resources.”
He added that in addition to introducing programs in Ukrainian and Russian, two new offices will be opened in Kyiv and Brussels.
Each of the three BELSAT bands will have an independent editorial manager reporting to the current TVP World management team, and in the future, a new center for foreign programs.
Belsat will continue to be directed to residents of Belarus. The Russian-language programming will be directed at the Russian diaspora and residents of former USSR countries to refute Kremlin propaganda, while the Ukrainian-language band will talk about how the world sees Ukraine and what support it gets from Poland.
According to the station’s press release: “The new structure of programs for abroad will strengthen Poland’s message to the world.”
