The most common causes for taking sick leave were musculoskeletal problems and respiratory system diseases, according to the ZUS data.
In the span of a year, Poles took a total of 287.2 mln days off due to illness or the need to care for a child or another family member.
In comparison to the year 2022, the number of absence days caused by illness
decreased by 0.6%, while the number of instances of taking sick leave went up by
0.2%.
Over half of the medical leave notes issued by doctors were given to women, and
nearly 50% of all sick leaves taken lasted no longer than five days.
The largest percentage (26.9%) of days taken off due to illness was observed in the
30-39 year old age group.
