Tomasz Siemoniak attended a crisis management team meeting in the southwestern city of Nysa on Saturday morning to monitor the situation in the areas under flood warnings.

"The Opole and Lower Silesian provinces are in the first line of danger," he said.

"We are analysing information from the Czech Republic, and it is not good. We are diligently analysing what is happening in terms of rainfall and water levels on the Czech side," the minister said.

He added: "The data is not good, to put it mildly... The information from IMGW shows that the next 24-36 hours will be particularly difficult."

The Institute of Meteorology and Water Management (IMGW) reported on Saturday that the alarm condition of the water level was exceeded at 41 hydrological stations and the warning condition at 30 stations.

Siemoniak said that the services would regularly report on the threats. He also appealed to people to have confidence in the emergency services and to comply with any evacuation decisions
