The 28-year-old Śliwińska earned her silver medal in the shot put F40 class at the Stade de France, achieving a distance of exactly nine meters, and falling short of Dutch athlete Lara Baars by 10 cm.

Soon after securing the silver, Śliwińska announced that she will donate her medal to auction to help a severely ill girl from her hometown.

The girl, Anastazja Zabrocka, had undergone six life-saving surgeries, has quadriplegic cerebral palsy, epilepsy, and damage to the central nervous system, and requires constant rehabilitation.

“My brother-in-law works at a bakery with the girl’s grandmother. For some time now, I’ve been donating awards or competition shirts for her treatment. I hope this medal will at least slightly improve the situation for her and her family,” Śliwińska said.

Śliwińska, who secured gold in this event three years ago in Tokyo, also promised a rematch against Baars in four years.

She commented: “On one hand, it hurts a bit that I didn’t successfully defend the gold from Tokyo, but on the other hand, no one can take it away from me, and silver is also a great achievement. Additionally, I threw the shot put the farthest in the season; I haven’t managed to exceed nine meters in competitions this year.”

She highlighted that this year’s competition was held under challenging conditions—rain and in a slippery throwing circle.

Baars surpassed Śliwińska’s world record and set a new Paralympic record in Paris, now standing at 9.10 meters.

Reacting to the new record, Śliwińska said: “I’ll try to regain everything, but the next opportunity will be in four years in Los Angeles.”
