Education Minister Barbara Nowacka and Sports Minister Sławomir Nitras on Monday presented the results of the government-commissioned study, revealing a concerning trend: children's physical health has deteriorated compared to 15–20 years ago.
According to the latest findings, children demonstrate better results in physical tests up to a certain age, after which their performance begins to drop.
“Unfortunately, our kids leave school after eight years being less fit than when they start their education,” said Nitras.
A total of 3 million schoolgoers — boys and girls aged between 10 and 18 — took part in the study during the last academic year. The speed, endurance and strength of the participants were tested.
Nitras called on parents to encourage their children to stay fit, saying this was important for their health, quality of life and life expectancy.
