A Polish daredevil known as the Silesian Spider Man is facing two years in jail after climbing up the side of a 30-story skyscraper in Buenos Aires using just his bare hands.

Thrill-seeker Marcin Banot was spotted wearing a No.10 Lionel Messi football shirt while scaling the capital city’s 125-meter Globant Tower without a harness or safety ropes.

But after being reported by someone inside the building, over 30 firefighters, ambulances, and police rushed to the scene.

As Banot reached the 25th floor, he was intercepted by firemen, who then handed him over to the police.

The 36-year-old has since been charged with ‘violating the privacy of a home or commercial premises’, which is punishable by six months to two years in prison. He may also be fined after the city’s Minister of Security and Justice of the City, Waldo Wolff, said: “Given the irresponsibility of this subject, who is detained and at the disposal of Justice, the professionalism of our brigades was essential to avoid any tragic outcome.

“Consequently, we will ask the Justice Department to have the offender pay the cost of the operation.”

This was followed by the head of the Buenos Aires Government, Jorge Macri, who posted on the X platform: “We will ask the Justice Department to order him to pay for the entire operation.” Banot, who has over 300,000 followers on his Instagram, has a long history of urban climbing.

This has included scaling the UK's 152-meter Humber Bridge to raise money for a girl suffering from cancer, a 305-meter chimney in Romania, the 115-meter Hotel Melia Barcelona Sky, as well as a host of abandoned factory chimneys in his home region of Silesia.

Once asked if he was ever close to death, Banot said: “This question would require a very long answer, as it is a philosophical subject.

“Seriously speaking, we are close to death from the moment of our birth, we actually die every day of our lives.”
