Szymon Jackowski finished top to claim the €1,500 prize; however, this was not the only success recorded by the Polish team. Finishing 10th in the rankings, Jan Bartłomiej Baranowski also earned a gold medal.

Silver medals, meanwhile, were won by Patrycja Smentoch, Wiktor Kocur and Szymon Sobiech, ensuring that the Polish delegation topped the team rankings.

Radosław Ślusarczyk, the coordinator of the Polish team, said: “These were two very demanding days for our competitors as the level of competition was extremely high. However, thanks to making the appropriate preparations and the commitment of the students, we were able to achieve a historic result for the Polish team.”

Split into three stages - two written tests and an oral exam – this year’s Olympiad saw 85 competitors from 18 countries descend on Olympia in Greece to take part in the 37th instalment of the competition. These finalists were whittled down from an original pool of 97,000 students from 33 countries.

For Poland, the latest success puts the gloss on an already impressive record – since 2019, Polish students have taken home seven gold medals, thirteen silver and three bronze from the Olympiad.
