On Tuesday, a minibus traveling from Lviv in Ukraine to the Polish capital Warsaw, on which the Israeli man was a passenger, stopped at the farmers’ blockade at the Hrebenne border crossing.

According to police, “the man got off the bus, tore down a flag from one of the protestors’ tractors and threw it in a ditch.”

Anna Rębacz, a spokeswoman for the Zamość Prosecutor’s Office, told the Polish Press Agency (PAP) that the man had heard the charge of publicly defiling the Polish flag.

“He pleaded guilty and explained that he was very sorry for the situation that had occurred,” Rębacz said.

“The man said that it was an impulsive action and that he does not harbor any negative emotions towards Poles,” she reported.

The suspect has applied for voluntary submission to penalty. This involves suspended imprisonment, publication of the sentence or a fine.

The final decision will be made by the court at a hearing.
