The incident occurred during allied exercises involving Romanian troops, where ricochets from live fire struck civilian buildings near the range.

On Friday morning, the General Command of the Polish Armed Forces reported that projectiles hit structures located around 4 kilometers from the range, damaging residential buildings, a school property, a playground, and a store gate.

Fortunately, no one was injured. The military police have secured the area and recovered the projectiles.

Kosiniak-Kamysz said on X that the Romanian military is committed to helpi clarify the circumstances and fully compensate for the damages.

He added that high-level discussions between Polish and Romanian military leaders have taken place, with Romania sending a team to investigate.

“The Romanian side is sending a team to us... and is committed to doing everything possible to regain the trust of the local residents,” he said.

Biała Piska Mayor expressed concern, noting that multiple projectiles were involved: “I believe there were seven or more projectiles.” He described the incident as unprecedented and called for military accountability.

The Bemowo Piskie training area is home to a NATO Battalion Battle Group, including troops from the United States, the U.K., Romania, and Croatia. The group regularly conducts joint exercises with the 15th Giżycko Mechanized Brigade to strengthen regional security.
