Officers from the so-called “Shadow Hunters,” a unit of Poland’s Central Investigation Bureau of Police (CBŚP), detained Dmitry V. following an arrest warrant issued by the District Prosecutor’s Office in the capital Warsaw.

Dmitry V. is accused of fraud, money laundering and illegal money transfers related to managing WEX, a cryptocurrency exchange that was once the largest in Russia before its collapse in 2018, according to reports from Reuters and Polish daily Rzeczpospolita.

The U.S. Department of Justice has now requested his extradition, with Polish authorities confirming that Dmitry V. could face up to 20 years in prison if convicted in the United States.

In a separate action in the tourist city of Kraków, police arrested Nela D., a Czech national wanted for her alleged role in an organized criminal group involved in producing and distributing drugs.

Alongside her, officers detained Tomasz M., a Polish man sought for theft charges.

The “Shadow Hunters” have proven instrumental in tracking down fugitives worldwide.

Since the beginning of this year, the unit has located 30 individuals wanted for serious crimes, including leaders of organized crime syndicates.

“Most often, they are leaders and members of organized criminal groups suspected of committing crimes of a serious nature,” the Central Investigation Bureau of Police (CBŚP) said in a statement.
