The detention was carried out by officers from the
Podlaskie Branch of the Border Guard in northeastern Poland.
The man is known to be 41 years old, dressed in civilian clothes, and unarmed. It is believed that he was most likely trying to enter Poland illegally through Belarus, directly from the Ukrainian front.
RMF FM reports that they found Russian military documents on his person, including a contract with the army that covered participation in military operations against Ukraine.
The deserter tried to use a migration passage organized by Alexander Lukashenka’s regime, which is predominantly used by foreigners from the Middle East, North Africa, and Central Asia trying to illegally enter Western Europe.
Polish services are currently holding the man and conducting an investigation.
