The strike on Wednesday hit a residential area in Zaporizhzhia, a city that has been repeatedly targeted by Russian forces since Moscow launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
On Thursday, the regional governor, Ivan Fedorov, wrote on the social media platform Telegram: “As many as 113 people injured, 10 of them are in serious condition – these are the consequences of yesterday’s Russian attack on Zaporizhzhia.”
Of those injured, 59 remain in hospital, with 10 in critical condition, he added.
Ukraine’s Prosecutor General’s Office reported that the attack damaged apartment buildings, an industrial facility and other infrastructure.
A tram and a minibus carrying passengers were also hit, it added.
“There is nothing more cruel than launching aerial bombs on a city, knowing that ordinary civilians will suffer,” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy wrote on the social media platform X, urging Kyiv’s Western allies to step up pressure on Russia.
During the nearly three-year-long war,
Russia has frequently launched aerial attacks on residential areas, leading to the death of thousands of civilians in what is widely considered Europe’s biggest conflict since World War II.
