Other postulates include cutting ties with Israeli institutions and revealing publicly which Israeli institutions have been cooperating with UW so far.

A week before the occupation of Autonomy Park (part of the University of Warsaw campus) began, protesters sent an open letter to the university’s rector expressing their opposition to the humanitarian situation in Gaza and Israel’s policies toward Palestine.

Initially, the protest was attended by University of Warsaw students. Later, outsiders began to join in, with the Warsaw Palestinian community lending its support.
On Tuesday, May 28, protest representatives were invited to the first negotiations with the rector and University of Warsaw officials.

“We didn’t hear anything promising, instead there were a lot of excuses about not rushing, thinking through all the consequences, and listening to different sides,” an UW student, Nena, told Onet after the negotiations.

“The rector is following a conservative strategy. He refuses to take a position, even though we think he personally agrees with us, although for economic reasons and the prestige of the university, he is unwilling to accept the demands,” she added.

On Friday, protesters told Radio Wnet, that negotiations with university authorities have so far not yielded results.

UW assured that no one participating in or supporting the occupation protest will face legal or disciplinary consequences.
