Swift was due to play at Vienna's Ernst-Happel-Stadion on Thursday, Friday and Saturday as part of her blockbuster Eras tour.
But in an Instagram post late on Wednesday, event organizer Barracuda Music said: “With confirmation from government officials of a planned terrorist attack at Ernst-Happel-Stadion, we have no choice but to cancel the three scheduled shows for everyone’s safety.”
Earlier, Austrian authorities arrested a 19-year-old in Lower Austria who had recently pledged allegiance to the Islamic State after being radicalized over the internet.
Austria’s security chief, Franz Ruf, told a press conference: “We have established corresponding preparatory acts and also that there is a focus of the 19-year-old perpetrator on the Taylor Swift concerts in Vienna.”
A second person was also arrested in Vienna.
Posting on X, Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer said that although the cancellations would be a “bitter disappointment for all fans,” the situation had been “very serious.”
He added: “Thanks to the intensive cooperation of our police and [security agencies] with foreign services, the threat was recognized early, combated and a tragedy prevented.”
Barracuda Music has said that all tickets will be refunded.
