Andrzej Szacoń, a spokesman for the Lublin fire service, said an emergency call came in just after midnight.
Firefighters “found a fully developed fire, with flames engulfing the roof and one wall of the house,” Szacoń said.
After partially suppressing the blaze, firefighters entered the premises to find three unconscious people amid piles of household waste.
“The rescuers immediately evacuated the victims and handed them over to the medical rescue team. After examining the victims, rescuers declared all three evacuated individuals dead: a woman approximately 30 years old and two men aged approximately 40 and 70,” said Szacoń.
The building, long abandoned without functioning electricity or gas, was known to be used occasionally by homeless people.
“Due to the extensive damage to the building, it was impossible to determine a likely cause of the fire,” Szacoń added. Authorities are investigating the incident.
