The mass collision involved 21 vehicles, including 18 passenger cars and three trucks. Of the 56 people traveling in the vehicles, 15 were injured and four were killed.
The first two dead victims identified were boys aged seven and four who were returning from a top-division football game between Legia Gdańsk and Legia Warsaw at the former team’s home stadium.
Now, the other two fatalities have been identified as minors as well.
Police have detained a 37-year-old truck driver, whom they have charged with causing a traffic disaster and causing massive property damage. The driver has denied the charges.
On Sunday, the prosecutor’s office delivered a toxicology report that found the driver was not under the influence of any substances.
Mariusz Duszyński, a spokesman for the Gdańsk prosecutor’s office, said that records from the truck’s tachograph show that at the moment of the collision, the vehicle was traveling at 80 km/h, the maximum permitted speed on that section of road.
Analysis of the driver’s phone has shown that the device was not in use at the time of the crash.
The charges leveled against the driver carry a maximum sentence of up to 15 years in prison.
