The center was launched in the eastern Polish city of Lublin on Thursday, the Ukrainian Defense Ministry said.
The ministry added on the Telegram messaging app: “Working hours are from 9:00 to 17:00 daily without breaks. A military medical commission operates on site.
“Volunteers undergo training at the facility provided by the Polish side. Ukraine provides uniforms and gear, while Poland provides weapons and equipment.”
Ukrainian Deputy Defense Minister Ivan Havryliuk was quoted as saying by the Kyiv Independent newspaper that the enlistment center will conduct medical examinations and issue certificates of service eligibility.
After signing a contract, Poland will set up a training ground where the recruits will receive instruction. The introductory training course will last 35 days.
“Later, the soldiers can be sent to one of the European NATO bases for more months to improve their skills,” Havryliuk said.
Recruitment takes place through the official website of the Ukrainian Legion, a recently established Ukrainian volunteer military unit, or through Ukrainian consulates and embassies.
Poland and Ukraine signed a security agreement on July 8, which led to the formation of the Ukrainian Legion. The deal supports the establishment of a volunteer legion in Poland with the potential participation of foreigners.
Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski said that by mid-July, thousands of Ukrainians living in Poland had enlisted in the legion.
