The online footage, released by Belarusian opposition channel Nexta on the Telegram app, is captioned “Testing of a Ukrainian FPV drone with an RPG-18 grenade launcher.”
An anonymous military source was quoted by the Kyiv Post as saying the technology was still “raw” but showed great promise.
According to the source, there was hope that the adaptation would help lower the high number of injuries sustained by personnel equipping kamikaze drones.
“Today, the risk of injuries to engineers while equipping kamikaze drones is quite high, but it’s not commonly discussed,” he said.
Ukrainian media outlet Telegraf reported that the concept is not new, having been proposed by Belarusian designers at a Russian defense expo in 2021.
Telegraf said the main drawbacks to be overcome are instability after firing due to the low weight of ‘multicopters,’ as well as issues with the system’s maneuverability and accuracy.
Another video circulation recently on social media shows a Ukrainian drone equipped with a Kalashnikov assault rifle firing at Russian positions in Ukraine’s eastern Donetsk region, the Kyiv Post wrote.
