According to the Ukrainian website Ukrinform, the demonstration is set to begin on Tuesday at the Rava-Ruska-Hrebenne, Krakovets-Korczowa and Shehyni-Medyka crossings.

The website added that the 24-hour protests will continue until March 15, or until the border is unblocked by the Polish farmers.

Volodymyr Mykhalevych, head of the International Road Carriers of Ukraine, said: “The purpose of the peaceful assembly is to express the protest of carriers from Ukraine against the blockade of freight transport traffic that started in November 2023.

“This causes large financial losses for the international road transport industry of Ukraine, exporters and importers from both countries and the economy of Ukraine, and also weakens the defense capabilities in a state of war,” Mykhalevych said.

According to Ukraine’s Border Guard Service, around 3,000 trucks are waiting at the border with Poland.

In mid-January, Poland’s hauliers agreed to suspend their protest until March in the hope of reaching an agreement with the government but, in turn, Polish farmers have recently started blocking border crossings with Ukraine.

The farmers have been protesting against EU regulations that allow some Ukrainian agricultural produce tariff-free access to EU markets.

The farmers argue that this has led to a drop in the prices of their own produce and made it hard to sell it on the domestic market.
