The missile, which was carrying dummy warheads, failed to ignite its first-stage boosters, the report noted.
In response to the reported incident, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) acknowledged that an “anomaly” had taken place during the test but did not offer further details due to national security concerns.
“Although we cannot provide more information due to national security, we are confident that the issue was an isolated event and that it will not affect the overall reliability of the Trident missile system and arsenal,” the MoD stated.
“The U.K.'s nuclear deterrent remains secure, effective, and safe,” the MoD assured.
