Built and designed by Tomasz Patan from the western city of Poznań, the Jetson One eVTOL (electric Vertical Take-off and Landing) was initially conceived in 2017 when the company he co-founded aimed to make “everyone a pilot” with flying cars.
Now the 102-horsepower battery-operated aircraft with eight motors has finally gone on sale to the public for $128,000, with 500 already being snapped up in pre-sale orders.
Speaking about the project, Patan said, “This isn’t my work. It’s my life.”
His passion has since propelled Jetson from its European roots to prominence in the United States, where it has captured widespread admiration including from Hollywood A listers Tom Cruise and Tom Hanks.
Being able to reach speeds of over 100 kmph, experts say the Jetson eVTOL could soon revolutionize the way we get around, especially in crowded metropolises.
Maciej Kawecki, an internet creator who specializes in technology and who made a film documenting Patan’s creation said: “A boy from Poznań has created the world's first widely available eVTOL flying vehicle, defining a new category in transport.
“We waited half a year to broadcast our documentary to finally be able to write that Jetson One, a flying vehicle created by Tomasz Patan, has just become the world's first commercially available ‘flying vehicle’, defining its own category!”
He added that the “price is comparable to the prices of luxury cars. The more common these vehicles are, the cheaper they will be, compared to traditional cars.”
