Scheduled to open this fall at the Kondratowicza metro station in the capital’s eastern Targówek district, architects’ visualizations of the space-age ‘Metroreka’ show a sleek interior reminiscent of a spaceship with undulating shelves from floor to ceiling.
Its designers highlight its “innovative parametric” inner space, intended to be flexible to different needs.
It will also feature a gallery and space for meetings with authors, the Super Express daily reported.
The library’s planning has been inclusive, with ease of access for mobility-impaired visitors taken into account.
Also catered for are children, with a kids’ zone housing books for younger readers as well as a host of multimedia attractions.
Lending will be self-service using special chips for borrowers to take and return books, and its multi-media facilities will also provide interactive cultural and educational services, City Hall’s culture office has promised.
The local library service told the Raport Warszawski website that the space will also feature special hydroponic plants not only to make it more inviting but also “to fulfil an educational function, teaching about modern plant cultivation methods.”
Although the facility is still waiting to be stocked with books, it has been hosting special events since last year.
