Maryia Zhodzik, 27, defected in 2022 and received Polish citizenship in March of this year. However, she will only be able to compete for Poland from June 20—exactly three years on from her last appearance for Belarus.

Greenlighted by World Athletics, her decision to compete under the Polish flag was also recognized by the International Olympic Committee.

"I am excited about the decision of World Athletics,” said Zhodzik. “I was waiting for it, and am glad that everything is over and I can officially represent Poland on the international stage. Now I have new sports challenges ahead of me - it’s time to train well ahead of Paris.”
