Local media outlets quoted the country’s interior ministry as saying that several dozen Polish supporters attacked Croatian fans and police after Sunday’s match in the eastern city of Osijek in Croatia, according to Polish state news agency PAP.

One detained Polish fan has been charged with insulting a police officer and another remains hospitalized, while 65 others have been released after paying fines, PAP reported.

Five Croatian fans were also detained after attacking Polish supporters before the match began, PAP added.

The Euronews outlet reported that some Croatian supporters were angered by the Polish national anthem being played before the start of the match, mistaking it for the national anthem of the former republic of Yugoslavia, which Croatia declared independence from in 1991.

Following their 0:1 loss to Croatia on Sunday, Poland are third in Group 1 after two Nations League matches.

Poland return to action in October, hosting Portugal in Warsaw on the 12th followed by Croatia at the National Stadium in the Polish capital on the 15th.
