Lewandowski sustained the injury in Sunday’s La Liga match between Barcelona and Real Sociedad.
The Polish captain, who has been in dazzling form for his club, is expected to be out of action for 10 days, meaning he will miss the crucial games as Poland battles to survive in the Nations League’s top division.
Poland face Portugal in Porto on Wednesday, followed by a home fixture against Scotland in Warsaw three days later.
The absence of the 35-year-old striker comes as a blow for head coach Michał Probierz as his side prepares to face the two matches. Poland is third in their Nations League group on four points—three ahead of Scotland, currently in the relegation zone, and three behind Croatia.
Should the Poles defeat the Scots, they will face one of the runner-ups of the four groups of the Nations League’s Division B to keep their Division A dream alive.
Probierz is expected to turn to younger players and seasoned midfielders in the squad to fill the gap left by Lewandowski’s absence.
