The Polish athlete lifted 103kg in snatch, followed by 132kg in clean and jerk, and was
ranked first with a total of 235kg.
The snatch began positively with a successful lift of 127 kg. Unfortunately, the second attempt at 130 kg did not go as expected. To clear up the uncertainty, the Polish team opted for Weronika to take on the challenge of lifting 132 kg in her final attempt.
This decision proved to be effective. Increasing the weight by 2 kg from the previous failed attempt turned out to be the right move. Weronika handled it with ease, reaching a total of 235 kg in the clean and jerk, thus clinching the gold medal.
It is Poland’s first gold in Sofia and the third medal won by the country’s weightlifters at this year’s European championships, after Oliwia Drzazga won the silver in the 49kg category on Monday and Wiktoria Wolk took the bronze in the 64kg category on Thursday.
A Polish woman last won gold at the
European Weightlifting Championships in 2019.
