Poland’s energy giant appoints new CEO Ireneusz Fąfara has been appointed as the new CEO of the Polish oil giant Orlen, the company announced on Wednesday. He will assume his new position on Thursday, replacing Daniel Obajtek who was dismissed early February.

Fąfara has been appointed as the president for a joint term of the management board, which will conclude with the Ordinary General Meeting approving the company's financial report for the year 2025.

The company emphasized that Ireneusz Fąfara is an expert well-versed in the fuel sector and the challenges associated with energy transformation. Fąfara previously worked at Orlen - in the spring of 2010, he led the Lithuanian company of the then PKN Orlen - Orlen Lietuva, formerly known as Mazeikiu Nafta in Mažeikiai in Lithuania.

As head of Orlen Lietuva, he reformed and made the Mažeikiai refinery profitable, as highlighted by the company.

He stepped down from his position in early 2018. During his tenure, the company reached settlements in long-standing disputes with the main partners of the Możejki refinery - Lithuanian Railways and the Port of Klaipėda.

New deputy head

Witold Literacki has been appointed as the Deputy President for Corporate Affairs and the First Deputy President. After Obajtek’s dismissal, he was Orlen’s acting president. Literacki has been professionally associated with the fuel and energy industry for many years.

Orlen Group is a conglomerate that owns refineries in Poland, the Czech Republic, and Lithuania, as well as a network of fuel stations in those countries, and likewise in Germany, Slovakia, Hungary, and Austria. The group operates in oil and gas exploration, petrochemicals, and energy including renewable energy sources.
