The outage occurred as millions of Poles were submitting their annual PIT tax declarations. Attempts to log in to the system were met from the early morning with a notification that the service was temporarily unavailable and that the tax authority was doing everything to restore functionality.

“This morning, problems occurred with access to e-Urząd Skarbowy (e-Tax Office),” the finance ministry wrote in a Friday press release. “The difficulties result from a failure of the technical infrastructure. Technical work is ongoing.”

Users are still able to file their tax returns, however, the ministry explained.

“The Twój e-PIT (Your e-PIT) service is working properly and taxpayers can submit their tax returns through it,” the ministry wrote. “We recommend that taxpayers log in to the Twój e-PIT service directly at: https://epit.podatki.gov.pl/. With just 10 days left for Poles to file their annual returns, the RMF FM website pointed out that almost every year the system becomes overloaded during peak season and advised taxpayers not to leave filing their PIT till the last minute.
