According to Eurostat, in 2023, the actual weekly working time of people aged 20–64 in the EU in their main job averaged 36.1 hours.

A detailed look at the Eurostat data, however, reveals noticeable differences.

The longest working weeks were recorded in Greece (39.8h), Romania (39.5h), Poland (39.3h) and Bulgaria (39h hours).

In contrast, the Netherlands had the shortest working week (32.2h), followed by Austria (33.6h) and Germany (34h).

The sectors with the longest working week in the EU in 2023 included agriculture, forestry, and fishing (41.5 actual working hours), mining and quarrying (39.1h), and construction (38.9h).

The shortest working weeks were recorded in the categories of household activities as employers (26.7h), education (31.9h) and arts, entertainment, and recreation (33h).
