The campaign to recognize Toruń’s gingerbread culture as part of Poland’s intangible cultural heritage is gaining momentum, with public surveys now available to support the drive.

Launched on Wednesday, the surveys aim to highlight the importance of gingerbread traditions in the central Polish city. This initiative is driven by local institutions and businesses involved in the gingerbread industry.

The results will reveal the role of gingerbread traditions in the lives of Toruń residents, the importance of this heritage, and their pride in it, according to the initiative’s organizers.

The questionnaire is brief, anonymous, and accessible online on the District Museum's website and at Fabryka Cukiernicza Kopernik stores.

“From tomorrow, surveys regarding the inclusion of Toruń gingerbread culture on the National List of Intangible Cultural Heritage will be available in Factory Stores,” announced Fabryka Cukiernicza Kopernik on Facebook.

National List of Intangible Cultural Heritage

The National List of Intangible Cultural Heritage follows the 2003 UNESCO Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, which mandates state parties to protect and inventory their intangible cultural heritage.

This includes practices, expressions, knowledge, and skills, along with associated objects and cultural spaces, recognized by communities as part of their cultural heritage.

There are currently 97 entries on the list ratified by Poland.
